About Georgia
Georgia, also known as “The Peach State,” is the largest state east of the Mississippi River, and is 400 miles from top to bottom, and 250 miles east to west at its greatest width. Known for its southern hospitality, and home cookin’, Georgia is home to almost 9 million people, most of who live in or close to Georgia’s major cities such as Atlanta, Savannah, and Athens. While Georgia does experience four separate seasons, late spring and early fall are the best times of year in the state. Temperatures in these seasons range from daytime highs in the 70’s and low 80’s to nighttime lows in the 50’s and 60’s. Winter and early spring weather can be unpredictable with mild days mixed with occasional thunderstorms. Hurricane season is in the fall moths and can bring tropical storms, but generally the fall months are pretty mild. The summer months in Georgia can get very hot with temperature at or above 100 degrees, and with a high humidity percentage. The mountains in the north may be cooler in the summer and colder in the winter. Winters in Georgia are generally mild, with cold fronts and mild periods alternating from mid November to mid March.
