Online Information Technology Schools

How to Be In Demand
Skills in information technology are in demand. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that eight out of the top ten fastest growing jobs through 2010 are in the technology sector. These include software engineers, systems administrators, data and systems analysts, networking specialists and desktop publishers.

What would you be doing in each of these jobs?

Software Engineer
As a software engineer, you might research, design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers and network distribution software. You could find yourself working on medical, industrial, military, communications, aerospace, business, scientific or general computing applications.

Systems Administrator
All eyes in an organization would be on you as a system administrator to keep the computer system up and running. In your busy day you might set up and train a new user, plan, manage and troubleshoot the system, or watch over and administer security tools.

Data and Systems Analysts
As a data or system analyst you might plan and develop new computer systems or devise ways to apply existing systems’ resources to additional operations. You could be designing new systems, including both hardware and software, or add a new software application to harness more of the computer’s power. Your overall goal would be to help an organization to realize the maximum benefit from its investment in equipment, personnel, and business processes.

Networking Specialist
As a networking specialist, you might analyze, design, test, and evaluate network systems, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), Internet, intranet, and other data communications systems. You might perform network modeling, analysis, and planning. You could research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software.

Desktop Publishers
This can be a satisfying, creating job for good designers and communicators, as you use a computer to create and publish booklets, brochures, advertisements, in-house magazines, newsletters, training and technical manuals, stationery, and books ready for printing or publishing.

Whatever job you choose, one of the best ways to learn about computers is using one, from online information technology schools.
